Thoughts without WiFi
It isn’t often I find myself without WiFi. If the WiFi goes out at home, I still have the PS3 to distract me/allow me to create content for the site through FIFA 14. I also generally have some sort of chore I could do. Neither is true roaming the streets of Washington, DC. It was 10:15 when I started this article, and as I finish it up, I have to entertain myself until around 15:30 it seems.
I’ve been to the Library and to Harrar Coffee. Both are cold. I am wearing my trademark fingerless gloves…but only because I had them. I’m also wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Jeans would definitely be nice inside, but not for walking the streets.
It was also very cold at Room 11, where I started this article. The coffee there was good good. It was a lot of coffee, actually. I was not expecting nearly so much when I order a small. Had I not been in absolute desperate need for a restroom, I probably would not have stopped here. I probably would have asked if they had WiFi.
The lack of WiFi is the obvious reason for me not uploading the show we recorded yesterday. Now that I have WiFi at Harrar, I will get to that.
Anyway, on to some brief thoughts on sports…
Michael Sam and Johnny Manziel were the big stories coming out of the draft. I’ve said this before, but I think draft hype is ridiculous. We don’t know if these players are even going to make teams. I don’t mind people reporting it. I mean, it is news. But watching it? How is this an exciting watch?
The Wizards might actually win a second round series, although that seems like a long-shot at this point. If they were a Baltimore team, maybe I could be fussed. I want to cheer for the DC teams, like I wanted to cheer for the Chicago teams (that didn’t have Wisconsin counterparts) but I really can’t be bothered. I haven’t much been bothered about the O’s either, I think mostly because they are orange, but that’s another story.
It isn’t close enough to the end of the season for me to have checked in to NCAA Baseball or MLB baseball – not that I ever really check in to MLB. The ACC tournament is coming up, so it won’t be like before I start following NCAA.
The New England Revolution are actually good. They destroyed the Sounders 5-0 last night.
Currently, I sit tied for the lead in my MLS Fantasy group on points, though I am losing in the tie breaker, which, confusingly, is also (a different kind of) points.
Ideas for Future Articles:
1. I am thinking I may go back and FIFA 13 now that I have been with FIFA 14 for four months. Is FIFA 14 really better? Of the top of my head, some things are definitely worse. Maybe when I go back to the old system I’ll see what EA was going for though.
2. I could do a weekly column where I just write about whatever and don’t concentrate on a specific topic. You know, go somewhere without WiFi and just write! I’m not sure I could focus on writing things other than cover letters if I have WiFi. I could obviously write cover letters with WiFi as long as I download job descriptions beforehand. I am solid with planned no WiFi. The unplanned WiFi is the real problem!
Planned Future Shows and Articles:
We know for a fact we’ll be doing a FIFA World Cup Preview Show, a Review Show, and a couple of shows during the tournament.
We will record two shows before the World Cup. Other than the World Cup Preview, what do you think we should cover? MLS, Various Cups (English, German, Other?), and UEFA Champions League are the most likely candidates, but of course we could also do MLB, NBA, or NHL. Allsvenskan and other summer leagues in Europe are also a possibility.
I also have a huge backlog of articles I have started, but I can’t access them since I don’t have WiFi.
I have told many people this already, but in case you want to go to a game or be interviewed for the show, I’ll be in North Carolina May 17-23 and in Minneapolis/Wisconsin June 6-15. We may record a show while I am in North Carolina. I may go to a Carolina Railhawks (NASL) match. I will definitely be watching as many World Cup matches as I can. Aside from that, everything is debatable. At the moment, it is looking like I won’t be able to catch the FA Cup, but we’ll see what I can do. It might be fun to go to Abbey Burger as they are an Arsenal Bar, though I’m sure it will be super-crowded and we probably will have already left for NC.
