Two Great Football Bars in Baltimore

I’ve been in Baltimore all summer and will be heading back to Concord in a few weeks. While I was hear I discovered two great places to watch a game, depending on your affiliation. Arsenal fans should go to Abbey Burger and Liverpool fans should go to No Idea. Both places are conveniently close to M&T Bank Stadium where the Ravens play and where the European clubs come for their summer tours. Camden Yards, where the Orioles play is walking distance as well, but not a walk you would want to do on a particularly hot or cold day!

Abbey Burger – Arsenal

In 2010, Abbey Burger was named Maryland’s best burger joint. I can certainly believe it. It is amazing. The last time I was there, my mother’s said it was the best burger she had ever had. I’m a vegetarian and they have two absolutely amazing veggie burgers. The sweet potato fries are great too. Make sure you arrive early before a game. It’s a little bigger than No Idea, but it can get packed. If you want to check out historic Cross St Market in Baltimore, you’re in luck, because it is literally across the street from Abbey Burger.

EDIT: There is actually a third vegetarian burger option, the Fried Green Tomato Burger. They also serve grilled cheese. You can take a peak at their menu for yourself.

No Idea – Liverpool

No Idea is just down the road from Abbey Burger on Hanover St in Baltimore. Don’t get the wrong idea by the wine bottle on their website front page. This place is a pub. The place has an amazing lounge area and plenty of bar games. It’s not a big place; definitely cozy. If you go, get the nachos. They are amazing. No Idea is also the Baltimore home for Penn St. fans and NY Jets fans.

Now, I’ve made no secret that Manchester United is my team of choice in England. So, why cover places for Arsenal and Liverpool? Both Abbey Burger and No Idea are in a part of Baltimore called Federal Hill, where I am living for the summer. Sure we get over to Little Italy some times and to other parts of the city (apparently there is a Greek town as well, on the other side of the city) and while Baltimore is filled with great places to eat, I’ve yet to find places dedicated to United.
