Let the Games Begin!

London Olympics

The Olympics were in London in 1948…oh, and 2012.

The Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics start in just over 3 hours. However, there have already been some games. For example, both men’s and women’s football has started. In case you are wondering, the US is not competing in men’s football, but the women are expected to compete for the title. The Olympics will take place until August 12th. Even though I’m knee-deep in Lawcast stuff, I am excited for the Olympics and the start of the major football (soccer) leagues of the world. I’m excited about the upcoming United season, even if intrigue does still surround the club. United’s first match is August 20th against Everton.

Mostly, I’m excited about seeing Premier League teams playing in the flesh for the first time tomorrow. I’ve seen a number of Premier League players in the past, at World Cup 2010 and at other international tournaments, but never English clubs. The two I see tomorrow are Tottenham and Liverpool. Due to their deal with Under Armor, Tottenham are now the favorite sons of Baltimore. I will get up pictures and audio on Sunday.

My brother is a Liverpool fan and my family are making the trip up from down south to see the game. With all the excitement of my family in town, I will not have time to stay plugged into the Olympics. My hope is that one of the many other SportAZine writers will pick up the slack. I also wish I could go see Ibrahimovic in DC, but that seems unlikely to happen with weekend commitments. Today marks the start of Restaurant Week in Baltimore. No idea if the fancy-schmancy places involved in Restaurant Week will have on the games. If so, maybe I’ll have some commentary!
